Late World Book Day Meme…
The book I am reading: Alex Cross’s Trial by James Patterson. A novel about racism and lynchings in the south and the white lawyer who’s trying to solve who’s behind the return of the KKK to his hometown. I picked it up to kill time in the morning and somehow I got sucked in.
The book I am writing: I put Next to Godliness on hold because I’ve hit a snag in the logistics of the plot. For months I would just look at the blinking cursor, wracking my brain about how to wrangle the characters. It was something I thought I’d just be able to bang out, years back when I started it. I didn’t foresee how expansive it would become. So I’ve picked up the old novelization of Elven Lacryment and been working on that. Unfortunately I still see it progressing in little boxes as a comic book but it seems that comics from novels are all the rage right now so there’s still hope.
The book I love most this year: I haven’t finished a book this year yet.
The last book I received as a gift: The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Vampires the way vampires should be. It’s refreshing.
The last book I gave as a gift: World War Z by Max Brook. Best zombie book ever.
The nearest book on my desk: Alex Cross’s Trial by James Patterson.
Ask me my characters’ thoughts on [insert subject here], whether it’s sex, the apocalypse, or another character. I will write back an explanation.
Pick a character I write, and I will give you the top five ideas or concepts or factoids I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to depicting him or her accurately. This includes original characters and characters about whom I write fanfic.
So, there’s this flowchart going around which reduces almost any female into a trope or stereotype. Wonderfully developed flawed characters like Azula (Girl Hitler) and Sarah Connor (Mama Bear).
I’m not going to link to it, if you really want to find it, you will, trust me.
So, I’m just going to do the Fuck you, she’s awesome meme.
Give me a female character and I will tell you why she is awesome. It might be a ficlet, or some meta, or a list or whatever.
Things I am familiar with: Avatar: TLA, Silent Hill, REPO! The Genetic Opera, X-Men, Sailor Moon, Muppets, Poison Elves, Hellsing, Boogiepop Phantom, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Devil Hunter Yohko, Shikabane Hime, Higurashi, AEon Fluxx, The Maxx, She-Ra.
Speaking of She-Ra, Thundercats was on TV the other day. I remember loving Thundercats when I was little. Unfortunately watching it the other day…the production values were so painfully low I actually got embarrassed watching it. Though I still watch the Beetlejuice Cartoon, as well as The Raccoons on occasion. Also, sometimes I’ll hunt down old episodes of Jem on Youtube and I can watch that too. But Thundercats…I feel somehow…cheated. Like my childhood was a lie. A LIE!
Day 30 – Your favorite song at this time last year
Let’s go with this one, because it inspired art in me.
Yep, so we’re done folks, but you know what? I’m going to challange myself. I’m gonna do all 30 again, right now.
But only with Alice Cooper songs.
Day 29 – A song from your childhood
Yep. Suck it, The Last Unicorn!
Day 28 – A song that makes you feel guilty
Guilty? Umm. Hm.
I can’t think of a suitable answer for this one at all.
Oh, wait!
Do you have any idea what it’s like to be a Type O Negative fan and not like this song? Do you? If you don’t like it you’re a BAD TON fan! Bad Fan! Don’t you know Peter Steele just Died?! Dance morosely damn it! HARDER!
Day 27 – A song that you wish you could play
I don’t even like Nine Inch Nails!
